Drama at Royal Event: Kate Middleton's Furious Response to Kiss Attempt on Prince William

While on a video conference with a 96-year-old woman, the Prince of Wales explained his flirtation with her, and Princess Catherine responded with a playful joke. The woman had requested a kiss from him. Meeting Betty McGee at Edinburgh's Bay Lodge Care Home in 2021 happened while the Prince of Wales was on a tour of Scotland amid the coronavirus pandemic. During a video call in May of that year, the Prince of Wales talked about the fun meeting. He said, "I got propositioned by a 96-year-old lady named Betty yesterday who wanted to kiss me." With a mischievous grin, Catherine said, "This is what happens when I'm not around."

Posting the video with the caption "BR," the clip quickly gained 26k likes and 120k views, propelling it to the top of TikTok's popularity charts.

"I don't know what I was doing, but I just discovered that watching interviews with the Prince of Wales and Catherine is the most entertaining thing ever," someone commented while enjoying their ice cream. The Prince of Wales and the Duchess were engaged in conversation when the elderly gentleman playfully remarked, "It's customary in these parts to give a lady a kiss on the cheek." The Prince of Wales, meanwhile, responded, "Oh, you are lovely. It's going to make me run. I shall return to kiss you on the cheek, Betty, when the regulations are more relaxed."

During a Zoom interview with Cruella de Vil stars Emma Stone and Emma Thompson in 2021, the Prince of Wales recounted the story of how he met Betty McGee. "I warned Betty that she would slap me on the back for being socially distant and inappropriate. She and her daughter are in a care facility," he added. "Then she said, 'I'll have you later.' She had quite the personality."

As an expression of their gratitude for everything that they do, the Prince of Wales and the Princess of Wales held a private screening of the film for employees of the National Health Service in Britain. The Prince of Wales was shown wildly celebrating England's victory over Switzerland in the 2024 Euro in Germany with fists pumped in the air.

Following her January stomach surgery and subsequent cancer diagnosis, which prompted the start of chemotherapy in March, Princess Catherine is taking time off from work to concentrate on her health.
