According to a new book, Meghan's purported remarks about Princess Charlotte "reduced Kate to tears." Apparently, Meghan compared the young royal to her close friend Jessica Mulroney's daughter Ivy, and the comparison was not favorable.
Initially, it was reported that Meghan had made Kate cry, but Meghan later clarified that it was actually the other way around. She said Kate had apologized and sent her flowers after their dispute.
The book also claims there was a separate disagreement between the duchesses over the length of Princess Charlotte's dress for the wedding. Kate supposedly felt it was too short and ill-fitting, but Meghan was unwilling to compromise.
In her interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan acknowledged there had been an issue with the flower girl dresses, but she said Kate had owned up to it and apologized.
"It wasn't a confrontation, and I actually think it's... I don't think it's fair to her to get into the details of that, because she apologized," Meghan said.
It seems these reported clashes in the lead-up to the 2018 royal wedding laid the groundwork for the rift that has persisted between Kate and Meghan ever since. The two have struggled to see eye-to-eye, despite their similar positions as outsiders joining the royal family.
