Prince Harry Reflects on Seeing Princess Diana's Body for the First Time After Her Death. Prince Harry recently shared poignant memories of the moment he first saw his mother, Princess Diana, following her tragic death in a car accident.
During an interview with Anderson Cooper on *60 Minutes* over a year ago, in January 2023, Prince Harry opened up about the emotional impact of that harrowing experience.
"For a long time, I just refused to accept that she was gone. Part of it was this feeling that she would never do this to us. But also, part of it maybe felt like this is all part of a plan," Prince Harry revealed to the host at the time.
He continued, recounting his disbelief and hope that his mother might still be alive: "For a time, I believed she was alive and that she would call us, and we would go and join her."
The prince also disclosed the lengths he went to in order to come to terms with the reality of her death. "I even started looking through pictures from the scene of my mother’s death, mainly for proof that she was in the car, proof that she was injured, and proof that the very paparazzi that chased her into the tunnel were the ones taking photographs of her lying half dead in the back of the car."
Describing what he saw in those photographs, he reflected, "The pictures showed the reflection of a group of photographers taking photographs through the window, and the reflection on the window was them."
Prince Harry's candid revelations provided a glimpse into his profound grief and the ongoing impact of his mother's untimely death.
