King Charles has given an insight into his close relationship with Prince William after a comment about inheritance brought him to tears. In 2019, the King and heir to the throne appeared in an ITV documentary called "Charles: Inside the Duchy of Cornwall." The documentary provided viewers with an in-depth look at the vast royal estates that Charles built into a profitable business over more than 50 years.
In the documentary, William is shown talking to a farmer about his private property. At that moment, the current Prince of Wales made a very important comment about the future, which had a special impact on his father. William said of the future, "I'm starting to think about how I might inherit the Duchy one day and what I would do with it. I think the family angle is really important. I really do."
Another clip emerged of Charles saying, "When I saw it, I couldn't believe it. I was deeply moved by what he said. Honestly, it made me cry. It has already happened because I suddenly thought, well, just hearing that from him has made the last 50 years worthwhile."
Royal commentator Camilla Tominey previously told The Telegraph, "The warmth that prevails between father and son seems to indicate the shedding of the ghosts of William's childhood and any pain he felt toward his father after he witnessed the traumatic repercussions of his parents' separation when he was a 10-year-old boy."
The Duchy of Cornwall is a vast estate owned by the Prince of Wales and includes land, farms, houses, and other assets. It generates income that supports the Prince of Wales, his family, and his charitable endeavors. Traditionally, the dukedom is granted to the eldest son of the reigning monarch at birth or when his father succeeds to the throne. William inherited the $1 billion Duchy of Cornwall estate and the title of Duke of Cornwall when Charles ascended to the throne following the death of the late Queen Elizabeth in September 2022.
