Prince Harry has faced significant criticism for using his book to attack the royal family. The Duke of Sussex, who published his memoir *Spare* in 2023, has highlighted strained relations with his family through a series of explosive allegations.
According to Royal Manager Regal Niika from the *Sunday Times*, there appears to be a deep freeze in the relationship between Prince Harry and Prince William. Niika noted that Harry’s relationship with his father, King Charles, is "staggeringly strained" despite the many attacks made in *Spare*. It's noteworthy that King Charles has never publicly responded to these criticisms. Niika praised the King for his restraint, stating that having such things said about oneself and one's spouse is indeed quite unpleasant.
Lord Charles is reportedly not taking any of Prince Harry's calls. This situation is seen as particularly problematic because Harry committed what Charles views as a cardinal sin—he referred to his stepmother, Camilla, as a villain in his book and revealed that both he and William initially begged their father not to marry her. Christopher Anderson, author of *The King*, told Fox News Digital, “Nobody disrespects Camilla in royal circles and gets away with it.” Anderson's comments came shortly after *People* magazine reported that the rift between the Duke of Sussex and the King has worsened, with the King reportedly battling an undisclosed illness.
Despite a positive meeting in February, communication between father and son has deteriorated. According to Harry’s close friends, the King is not returning his son’s calls or letters. One friend mentioned that Harry’s attempts to contact the King about his health have also been ignored, noting that there has been complete silence from the King.
Sources revealed that Prince William, Harry’s brother, has sided with their father, making any potential reconciliation seem distant. Royal insiders suggest that Harry’s memoir and public appearances have severely undermined the family's trust in him. Although Harry’s friends believe that he would have been able to secure proper protection if not for his departure from royal duties in 2020, they also think that the security issue will be resolved in time.
Harry’s friends assert that while Charles might eventually forgive Harry for stepping away from the monarchy and criticizing his brother William, he struggles to forgive Harry for what he views as gratuitous attacks on his beloved Queen Camilla.
