As Queen Camilla approaches her 77th birthday, Princess Kate is expected to be among those extending warm birthday wishes. This follows the late Queen Elizabeth’s wish for her son’s brother to be addressed as such when the time came for her to step down. Camilla officially became King Charles’s consort in September 2022, resulting in Princess Kate inheriting the title Duchess of Cornwall.
It’s worth noting that before Kate, Camilla held the title of Princess of Wales. Although legally entitled to this title, it was agreed upon during Charles and Camilla’s marriage in April 2005 that she would use HRH Duchess of Cornwall instead. This decision was likely made out of respect for the late Princess Diana, and to mitigate public resentment towards Charles’s ex-wife.
Currently, Kate holds the titles Duchess of Cambridge, Princess of Wales, and Duchess of Cornwall, having received the Cambridge titles upon her marriage to Prince William in 2011.
In her second public appearance of the year, Kate was warmly welcomed back to Wimbledon on Sunday, following her cancer diagnosis in March. Due to health issues, Camilla and King Charles had to take time off, prompting William to step in and assist with royal duties. Princess Anne also offered help but had to pause her own duties after a minor accident resulting in a concussion.
King Charles and Queen Camilla recently embarked on a royal tour of Jersey and Guernsey, the two largest Channel Islands. This week has been busy for them, and Camilla will need to postpone her birthday celebrations as she and the King attend the State Opening of Parliament today.
Fortunately, after a challenging year, the royal family is set for a family vacation next month. They will be heading to Balmoral, joined by William, Kate, and their children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—expected to arrive in mid-August. Despite speculation that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might bring Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to visit the King, a source confirmed they have not received an invitation.
