With Halloween around the corner, reports suggest that the Prince and Princess of Wales are planning to spend quality time with their children. Traditionally, British royals don’t celebrate Halloween, but as a mother, Catherine reportedly enjoys decorating and marking the spooky holiday with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
The Wales children are currently on a two-week school break, set to end Monday, November 4th. This year, the princess is determined to make the holiday season extra special after her challenging journey with cancer. Recently, she made an ordinary yet surprising visit to her local Sainsbury’s on the Hardwick Industrial Estate in Norfolk, where she was seen casually browsing the aisles with Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Her low-key appearance left fellow shopper Kathy Whitaker amazed, as she later shared her experience. “I just couldn’t believe it,” Kathy said, recounting how Catherine chatted with her children about their costume ideas before heading to the self-service checkout, accompanied by her bodyguard.
Despite her bodyguard's polite request for no photos, Kathy mentioned she managed to capture a discreet photo of the family. “You just don’t expect it. You think the princess would shop at Waitrose or Harrods,” she remarked.
Catherine’s fondness for Halloween traditions is nothing new. Last year, she reportedly took her three children trick-or-treating in their local area. Her love for the holiday likely dates back to her own childhood, when her mother, Carole, would take her and her siblings, James and Pippa, out for Halloween festivities. Though this Halloween may look a bit different as she recovers from recent chemotherapy, the school break offers a perfect opportunity for a special family celebration.
According to British media, Prince William, who has several royal engagements lined up, is expected to ease his schedule in the coming weeks to spend more time with the children. As for the Princess of Wales, it’s anticipated that she won’t take on additional royal duties until at least November, allowing her to fully enjoy this time with her family.
The three Wales children are likely to spend much of their break with their cousins on the Middleton side, who live nearby. Their paternal grandmother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales, was known to make Halloween special for her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. She would dress them up in costumes and take them trick-or-treating, relishing the chance to bring joy to her children, just like any other mother.
In recent years, Prince Harry, especially since moving to California, has been known to celebrate Halloween with his own children, Archie and Lilibet. During the early days of his relationship with Meghan, the couple enjoyed a quiet Halloween together, maintaining privacy before their romance went public. Now in the United States, the Sussexes are believed to celebrate the holiday with their children and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.
While the Royal Court doesn’t typically host Halloween events, some royal residences, like Windsor Castle, occasionally hold Halloween-themed events for the public, featuring ghost tours and other spooky activities, particularly for children, to bring a touch of Halloween spirit to the historic sites.
