Princess Kate Makes Surprise Visit to Support Southport Attack Victims
Princess Kate joined Prince William for a surprise appearance to meet with victims of the Southport attack, which tragically claimed the lives of six-year-old BB King, seven-year-old Elsie Stanham, and nine-year-old Alice Silva. The incident occurred during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in the town of Mereside on July 29, leaving many others injured as well.
During their visit, Their Royal Highnesses held private meetings with the families of the three children who lost their lives, as well as a dance teacher who was present during the attack. They also met with members of the fire, ambulance, air ambulance, and police services at the Southport Community Centre.
The Prince and Princess listened intently as first responders shared their experiences from the scene and discussed the emotional toll the incident has taken on their mental health. Additionally, they engaged with mental health practitioners who have been providing long-term support to the emergency services community in the aftermath of this tragedy.
This visit comes shortly after Kate's announcement that she is now cancer-free, marking her first public engagement with William since her diagnosis over six months ago. Initially, it was expected that the Prince of Wales would attend the visit alone. In March, Princess Kate shared news of her diagnosis, and in September, she released a video showing quality time spent with Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis in Norfolk.
Today’s visit signifies her gradual return to public duties, with other lighter engagements planned leading up to her anticipated attendance at the Remembrance Sunday service with her family.
