Buckingham Palace Shares First Statement After Warm Welcome for King Charles and Camilla. King Charles, who began his Australian royal tour with a church service on Sunday, issued a statement after receiving a warm welcome from the public.
The monarch's office shared a video of Charles and Camilla arriving at St Thomas' Church, along with a heartfelt message.
The message began with a local greeting: *“G’day Sydney!”* It continued, *“Thank you to everyone who came out to St Thomas’ Church this morning to say hello to Their Majesties, as their first day of engagements in Australia got underway.”*
The church service marked the start of the royal couple's six-day tour in Australia, with a busy schedule ahead.
Following the service, King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to meet with State Premier Chris Minns to celebrate the Bicentenary of the Legislative Council. They will also meet with Australia’s Governor-General, Sam Mostyn.
This Australian tour is significant for Charles, as it is his first since his recent cancer diagnosis, and it marks the first time a reigning King has visited Australia.
Although this is his first trip to Australia as King, Charles is no stranger to the country—he has visited a total of 16 times and even attended school there for six months as a teenager in 1966.
