Despite that challenging experience, Halloween has remained a special time for Harry and Meghan, especially now that they have children to join in the festivities.
In their biography, *Finding Freedom*, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand recount how the couple enjoyed what they described as a "perfect" evening at Soho House, where a lively Halloween party was taking place. They wrote: "They especially didn't feel like spending Halloween weekend in hiding, as there was much to celebrate. Some four months into their relationship, they were madly in love and eager to partake in the fun of one of their favorite holidays. On the evening of October 29, with Harry in town, the couple decided to attend a big costume party at Soho House in Toronto."
However, their joyful night was soon interrupted by news that a newspaper had discovered their relationship and was planning to publish a story the following day. The authors detail the moment: "A cocktail or so into the party, they were both feeling relaxed, soaking up the Halloween spirit. It was possibly the perfect night out—until they received a call from one of Harry's aides at Kensington Palace. It wasn't good news."
Harry later recounted this experience in his memoir, *Spare*, expressing how "everything was rendered moot" after their night out when news of their relationship broke. He explained: "Well, we said, staring anxiously at our phones, it was going to happen eventually. In fact, we'd had a heads-up that it was likely to happen that day. Before heading off to the Halloween Apocalypse, we were tipped that another apocalypse might be coming. More proof that the universe has a wicked sense of humor."
Despite the mixed memories, Halloween has become a cherished celebration for the couple, especially as they now have children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to share the joy with.
During an appearance on *The Ellen DeGeneres Show*, Meghan reflected on how her children dressed up for Halloween. Looking back in 2021, she said, "We were home and we saw you guys, which was great. But no, we wanted to do something fun for the kids, and then the kids were just not into it at all. Archie was a dinosaur for maybe five minutes. Not even five minutes."
