Prince William Addresses Meghan Markle’s Views on Women Empowerment. Prince William navigated a potentially tense situation following Meghan Markle’s candid remarks about women empowerment.
In 2020, while still a working royal, Meghan joined her husband, Prince Harry, along with his elder brother, Prince William, and sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, at the Royal Foundation Forum.
During the event, the conversation took an awkward turn when Meghan started discussing important topics, including the Me Too movement, which veered away from the royal tradition of refraining from expressing personal opinions.
Reflecting on William’s reaction, royal expert Richard Eden shared insights during his *Royal Confidential* podcast. He noted, "We later learned from Prince Harry's book *Spare* that there had been an awkward moment backstage when Meghan had asked to borrow Kate's lip gloss. He describes how Kate was taken aback by this, but ultimately found some and grimaced when Meghan squeezed some out."
Eden further elaborated, "While these are honorable causes, they clearly present a potential clash with political issues, which is the last thing the Royal Family desires. You do wonder if a line in William's speech, where he mentioned that 'the task for us would not be to reinvent the wheel,' could have been aimed at his soon-to-be sister-in-law."
He emphasized the Royal Family’s inclination to maintain stability, explaining that "the reluctance to rock the boat is very much part of the Royal Family’s culture." William’s phrase, emphasizing continuity and tradition, echoed sentiments previously expressed by his aunt, Princess Anne, who cautioned against attempts to modernize royal behavior, reminding others not to "reinvent that wheel."
Following Meghan’s thoughts on feminism, William stated, "We’ve got four different personalities, and while we share the same passion for making a difference, we hold different opinions."
Prince Harry then added, "I think those opinions work really, really well. Working as a family does have its challenges, and the fact that everyone is laughing shows they know exactly what it’s like. We’re stuck together for the rest of our lives."
