Revealed: Intriguing Details About Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Wedding Ring

Prince William Avoids Wearing His Wedding Ring: Here’s Why

Prince William and Kate Middleton, who celebrated their wedding in 2011, are the proud parents of three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Some fans speculate that William's decision to forgo wearing his wedding ring indicates dissatisfaction with the marriage, especially in contrast to his father, King Charles, who proudly sports his wedding band at all times. Despite being married to Kate for over 13 years, Prince William has never worn his wedding band. Meanwhile, Kate’s engagement ring, a stunning sapphire and diamond piece that once belonged to the late Princess Diana, is widely admired and envied by many.

Before their wedding day, a palace spokesperson told PEOPLE, “There is only going to be one ring, in accordance with the couple’s wishes.”

While some may attribute William’s choice to royal tradition, the reality is that his decision to not wear a wedding ring stems from personal style.

“He’s not one for jewelry,” a source informed the Mirror. “He’s never worn any. He decided he didn’t want to wear one now. It’s all down to personal preference.”

In contrast, William's father, King Charles, opts to wear his wedding ring, though he places it underneath his signet ring on his pinkie finger. On the other hand, Prince Harry wears a wedding band on his ring finger, a tradition he has maintained since marrying Meghan Markle in 2018.

Interestingly, like William, his grandfather, Prince Philip, never wore a wedding band during his 73-year marriage to Queen Elizabeth II.

Royal expert Eloise Parker has previously explained this phenomenon, stating: “Although it’s traditional for royal women to wear both an engagement ring and a wedding ring after they get married, it’s never been traditional for royal men to wear one.”

This explains why some royals, like Philip and William, choose to forgo wearing wedding rings. Meanwhile, many royal watchers believe that Harry and King Charles wear their rings to publicly express their love for their spouses, a sentiment that William seems to reject.
