In a petition filed Thursday with the Los Angeles Superior Court, in connection with the former couple's legal battle over the Miraval Castle, the actress assured that Brad Pitt's physical abuse began "well before 2016".
The legal battle between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt continues in full swing. On Thursday, April 4, the actress filed a petition with the Los Angeles Superior Court, in which she claims that "Brad Pitt's history of physical violence began well before 2016".
In legal documents made public in October 2022, the actress accused her ex-husband of having been violent with her and their children during a private flight from France to California in 2016. Six days after this trip, Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt.
According to these new documents relayed by CNN, Angelina Jolie did not give details on these alleged abuses but indicates that she never filed a complaint against Brad Pitt at the time because she thought that "the best solution was for him to accept responsibility and help the family recover from the post-traumatic stress that he (had) caused".
Signing of a confidentiality agreement
In her request, the 48-year-old actress also returns to the dispute that has opposed her to Brad Pitt for several years over the Château de Miraval, a wine estate that the couple owned in France, in the Var, before their divorce.
Following their separation, Angelina Jolie sold her shares in the estate in 2021 to Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of the Stoli group, controlled by the Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler. A sale against which Brad Pitt filed a complaint in June 2023.
Because according to the actor, his ex-wife would have resold her shares "in secret" while they had agreed, when purchasing the property - owned 60% by Brad Pitt and 40% by Angelina Jolie - "never to sell without the consent of one or the other.
In her new request, filed Thursday, Angelina Jolie nevertheless declares having tried to sell Brad Pitt her stake in this area. But, according to the actress, their negotiations would have ultimately failed after the actor conditioned this sale on the signing, by Angelina Jolie, of a confidentiality agreement "about his assault".
According to the request relayed by CNN, this agreement "prohibited Jolie from "mentioning (other than in court) the abuse committed by Pitt towards Jolie and their children by trying to link Pitt's personal reputation to Miraval's business".
Allegations "totally false"
The actress nevertheless specifies that she agreed to sign a confidentiality agreement that was limited to not denigrating Miraval's wine activities as part of her original agreement with Brad Pitt to sell her shares in the winery, which they were about to finalize at the time.
"Mr. Pitt refused to purchase Ms. Jolie's interests when she did not want to be silenced by her confidentiality agreement," said Paul Murphy, Angelina Jolie's lawyer, in a statement sent to CNN.
After an investigation by the FBI, Brad Pitt was never arrested or charged for Angelina Jolie's accusations of violence. For his part, the actor has always denied these allegations, which he described as "totally false" through his spokesperson.
