Melania Trump, discreet and mysterious, stands by Donald Trump's side during his return to the presidential scene. But why, when she could be more in the spotlight, does she choose to stay in the background?
On November 6, under the spotlights of Palm Beach in Florida, Donald Trump, newly elected President of the United States, appears with his family to celebrate his victory. At his side, Melania Trump, radiant, becomes First Lady for the second time. However, despite her status as a former model and accomplished businesswoman, Melania Trump remains an enigmatic figure. Anne Toulouse, Franco-American journalist and author of The Art of "Trumping", spoke with BFMTV to explain the First Lady's discretion. Confidences that Melania Trump herself shared in her new autobiographical book.
If she stays in the background, it is above all by choice, but also by complexity. In her book Melania, published shortly before the presidential campaign, the former model shares her vision of life with the businessman, evoking the "human" Donald Trump, a "good father", explains journalist Anne Toulouse. This book is a real contribution to her husband's campaign, allowing Melania Trump to assert herself in ways other than words. Indeed, according to the journalist, she is a "reserved and shy" woman, with a strong Germanic accent, inherited from her Austrian mother. A language barrier that would have reinforced her feeling of embarrassment at the idea of speaking in public, thus encouraging her to choose other means of expression.
A balance behind the scenes
Beyond appearances, Melania Trump seems to have become fully aware of the particularities of her relationship with Donald Trump. "I think that when Melania married him, she had no illusions about his concept of marital fidelity", observes Anne Toulouse. Despite the scandals and the American President's adventures exposed to the light of day, Melania Trump has apparently opted for a form of tolerance. An accomplished businesswoman, she does not let herself be destabilized and, through her book, even manages to distance herself from this image of a docile wife.
