Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been warned by a royal expert that their continued criticism of the royal family could undermine the success of their Netflix documentaries.
Phil Dampier, a royal author, cautioned that the Sussexes' shows would struggle if they persist in attacking the monarchy. Speaking to *The Sun*, Dampier referenced Prince Edward's past documentary attempts, which "ended in disaster," and advised Harry to focus on other topics rather than airing family grievances in public.
“Making documentaries has never really gone well for the royals, particularly Prince Edward, when he started making lots of documentaries about his own family. That ended in disaster,” Dampier remarked.
He added, “Harry should avoid falling into the same trap. He needs to rein things back, and hopefully, we won’t see any more criticism of the royal family in his documentaries. He should explore other areas.”
Earlier this year, Netflix announced Harry's upcoming polo docuseries, which is set to premiere in December. The series promises to offer an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the high-stakes world of elite polo players.
While Dampier acknowledged that it’s understandable for the Duke of Sussex to explore new ventures, he pointed out that the show hasn’t gained the level of attention it likely deserves.
“The polo one, I don’t think it’s gone down that well,” he said. “Apparently, Netflix isn’t very happy because there’s hardly anything of the prince in it.”
