Todd Palin, the husband of former Republican candidate for Vice President of the United States and former governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin (55), has initiated divorce proceedings, according to reports on Monday in the US media. In a document filed with a court in Anchorage, Todd Palin (55) cites as justification for the divorce "such incompatibility of temperament between the parties that it is impossible for them to live together as husband and wife."
Todd Palin proposes to his still wife to share custody of their only minor child, who is 11 years old, as well as an equitable division of marital assets and debts. The Palins, a couple since high school, married in 1988, 31 years ago, and have five children together, of which four are already adults. In addition, the couple has five grandchildren (three from Bristol and two from their son Track).
Sarah Palin, also 55, took office in 2006 as Alaska's first female governor, quickly gaining national popularity that led to her becoming John McCain's vice presidential running mate in 2008. McCain and Palin lost those elections to Democrat Barack Obama, and Palin resigned from her Alaska post in 2009. During her White House campaign, Palin had to deal with the pregnancy of her then-teenage daughter Bristol. In addition to announcing the pregnancy, Palin said that her daughter and her then-boyfriend, Levi Johnston, were getting married, although the relationship ended shortly after the election. Away from the political front line, Palin starred in the 2010 reality show Sarah Palin's Alaska.
Also in 2010, she embraced the rise of the ultra-conservative Tea Party, participating in its founding convention, supporting many of its candidates and becoming one of the most popular faces of the conservative movement in the US. Todd Palin, meanwhile, a snowmobile racer who has worked in the oil and fishing industries, kept a low profile during his wife's political career, although in 2012 he participated in the NBC reality show Stars Earn Stripes.
