Megan and Harry: Time to Get New Accountants?
If I had the same accounting issues Harry and Meghan have been facing, I’d definitely be looking for a new accountant by now. There’s either something seriously wrong with their accounting team, or, in my opinion, they’re hiding something. It’s either clear errors they’re not correcting, or they're just not being honest.
The latest issue comes from the Archwell Foundation. It promised a $4 million donation, but it hasn’t posted the records publicly. The IRS tax return, known as the 990 form, was expected to be filed last week. However, when sources checked, there was no sign of it on the Archwell website. The foundation had previously stated it would be made available up to three weeks after the IRS deadline, which is December 2nd.
Now, some experts are surprised. Cynthia Reed, a private wealth partner at a law firm, said it’s unusual for Archwell not to have posted the return publicly yet if it has indeed filed it. Given how high-profile Archwell is, Reed found it odd that they hadn’t shared the return. If Archwell missed the IRS deadline, it could face a fine of up to $60,000. That’s serious. We all know missing tax deadlines is a big issue.
Absolutely, Andy. And this isn’t the first time Archwell has had problems. Back in May, Archwell was no longer in good standing because they hadn’t paid the required fees. They claimed they’d sent the check, but it got lost in the mail. Then, the next day, they said the check was there, but they hadn’t cashed it. It sounds a lot like a "dog ate my homework" excuse. They eventually paid the fees, but this is just one example of a larger issue with their charity’s management. If these mistakes continue, they risk having their charity status suspended or revoked.
It’s been a year full of accounting and filing issues for them, and it’s raising serious questions. I’m not saying there’s something shady going on, but these repeated problems make me wonder what’s really happening with the charity. I’m not even sure what Archwell does half the time, but it’s clear that a lot of money seems to go towards things like Harry and Meghan's lifestyle. Travel, wardrobes, all the extra perks – I’m starting to suspect that a lot of this is coming from the charity funds. After all, Archwell itself doesn’t seem to be bringing in much money lately, so where else would the money come from?
You’re right to be concerned, Andy. Remember, 95% of donations can be used by Harry and Meghan for expenses, like travel, clothing, and other business-related costs. So, if someone donates $6 million, they could keep $5.5 million of it as business expenses. That’s a huge red flag for me. I prefer to donate locally where I can see exactly where the money is going, like to animal shelters or local Meals on Wheels. Big charities like Archwell can be too opaque. You just don’t know where your money is really going.
Exactly. It’s frustrating because we all want to believe that when celebrities create foundations, they’re doing good, but it’s hard to take them at face value when there’s no transparency. Archwell says it supports various causes, but we hardly ever hear about any real, tangible outcomes. They might show up at events, but how much of that is truly charitable work and how much of it is self-promotion?
That’s the thing. Megan and Harry love the spotlight, but is that really helping the charity? Celebrity endorsements can raise awareness, but they don’t necessarily bring in more donations. Their presence might just be for show. Remember that event Megan attended where she walked in front of the crosses? She was criticized because it looked like she was exploiting the tragedy for attention. And that’s just one example of how these "charitable acts" can sometimes feel like self-promotion rather than genuine giving.
It’s troubling, Sue. If you’re going to build a charity around your image, you need to be extra transparent about how donations are spent. But here we are with missing tax filings, questionable expenses, and no clear accountability. It doesn’t look good.
This isn’t just about Harry and Meghan; it’s a bigger issue with how some celebrities use charities for their own gain. Tax write-offs, expenses for their lavish lifestyles – it all adds up. You’re right to be skeptical about where the money is really going.
Exactly. And this is why it’s so important to call this out. Charities are meant to do good, but when they start to look more like a front for self-promotion, it raises a lot of questions. If you’re going to claim to be a charitable foundation, you need to be transparent, no excuses.
Absolutely, Sue. We need more scrutiny, and I hope this doesn’t get swept under the rug. Transparency is key. So, folks, if you care about where your donations are going, keep an eye on Archwell’s actions. We’ll keep following this and bring you updates as they come in.
