In an interview with the well-known director of the fashion magazine, she assured that to appear on its pages, one must defend what one believes in and have a point of view.
Apparently, the relationship between the first lady of the United States, Melania Trump, and one of the most important women in fashion, Anna Wintour, director of Vogue magazine, would continue to generate friction between the fashion icons.
This, following an interview given by one of the most feared Britons in the industry, Anna Wintour, where she spoke about some women related to politics who have appeared on the cover of her magazine, including Michelle Obama and Hilary Clinton, while their husbands were presidents of the USA.
In this interview, Wintour insinuated that Melania would not be worthy of appearing on the cover of the magazine, after assuring that to be chosen, "you have to defend what you believe and you have to have a point of view" in relation to the policies of her husband Donald, and this would be the reason for rejecting the model from its pages.
"Obviously, they are women who we consider to be icons and inspire women from a global perspective. I think it has to be fair, one has to look everywhere, but I don't think it's a time to not take a position," said the fashion director.
She also explained how each person is chosen to represent the cover of the well-known international magazine, where "a profile of women who believe in the position on the issues they support and who believe they are leaders" is presented.
For her part, the spokeswoman for the American first lady, Stephanie Grisham, responded to Wintour's words, and assured that "being on the cover of Vogue does not define Mrs. Trump, she has already been there long before being first lady." In 2005, Melania appeared in the well-known magazine after marrying Donald where she appears in a wedding dress with a veil.
"Her role as first lady of the United States and everything she does is much more important than a photo shoot and a superficial cover (…) This further demonstrates how biased the fashion magazine industry is and shows how insecure and carefree Anna Wintour is," said Grisham, assuring that if Melania was given the option to appear again in the magazine she would not be available.
In contrast, when Barack Obama was in power, his wife Michelle appeared on three covers of the magazine. During the interview published by El PaĆs of Spain, the British woman said that at the time Michelle "redefined" what the role of the first lady means.
Hilary Clinton also appeared on a cover of the magazine in 1998 during her husband's second term and Vogue even supported her candidacy for the White House in 2016.
