Harry & Meghan Criticized for Lavish Lifestyle Amid Charity Work

The Lost Prince Explores Harry and Meghan's Contradictions in Montecito

A new German documentary, The Lost Prince, directed by award-winning filmmaker Ulrike Grunewald, has sparked fresh scrutiny of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The film examines the couple's life in Montecito, California, after stepping back from royal duties, raising questions about the disconnect between their advocacy work and their luxurious lifestyle.

The documentary highlights Meghan's preference for high-end designer clothing, even during visits to impoverished nations, as a contentious issue. Critics argue that such choices undermine the couple's intended message of solidarity with struggling communities.

Russell Myers of The Mirror commented, "If you're going to places like Nigeria or Colombia, which face immense socio-economic challenges, and you show up in tens of thousands of pounds worth of designer outfits, it sends the wrong message."

Former Head of Royal Protection Dai Davies accused Harry of limiting his interactions with ordinary people during international tours. Davies described these trips as "carefully orchestrated" and suggested they focus more on appearances than meaningful engagement.

"In Colombia, where the majority of people live in poverty, Harry predominantly mixes with the elite," Davies said. "These so-called interactions with 'normal people' seem staged. The campaigns appear more about promoting Harry and Meghan than addressing the core issues."

The documentary further critiques the couple for leveraging their royal ties to sustain their opulent lifestyle. It also notes their limited involvement in the Archewell Foundation, alleging they dedicate only about an hour weekly to the organization.

Financial records reveal a stark decline in donations to Archewell—from $13 million (£10.2 million) in 2021 to $2 million (£1.5 million) in 2022—raising questions about the foundation's impact and priorities.

The Lost Prince provides a critical lens on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, sparking renewed debates about the balance between their public messaging and private choices. As the couple continues to navigate life post-royalty, the tension between their advocacy and affluence remains a topic of public discourse.
