PETA Under Pressure: Netflix Audiences Demand Response to Harry and Meghan’s Polo Series

PETA Under Pressure: Netflix Audiences Demand Response to Harry and Meghan’s Polo Series

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Polo Series Faces Backlash: A Glitzy Display of Privilege and Contradiction

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have just released a five-episode documentary series offering a glimpse into the glamorous world of polo, filled with designer outfits, exclusive lounges, and plenty of polo mallet swinging. However, rather than providing an insightful and exciting look at this sport of royalty, the series quickly reveals itself to be a flashy, self-indulgent affair, with the Sussexes stepping in as producers.

Netflix marketed the documentary as a luxurious peek into the world of polo, promising viewers exclusive access to divot stomping in designer attire and mingling in high-end lounges. But what they should have said was, "Prepare for a window into the lives of out-of-touch millionaires who seem to have nothing better to do than swing mallets at horses." As the reviews start rolling in, it’s clear that the series is not the highbrow royal affair Netflix had hoped for.

The Guardian gave the show a lackluster review, predicting that Polo would quickly fade into obscurity. Even The Telegraph, which typically supports the Sussexes, struggled to stomach the series, claiming it lacked enough of the couple to make it anything more than a boring indulgence about the rich pursuing yet another expensive hobby.

But it’s not just the critics who are unimpressed. Viewers have taken to social media to voice their concerns about how the horses are treated during the sport. One viewer admitted they couldn’t handle watching the horses being slammed into each other repeatedly, while another expressed disgust over Harry using a stick to hit the horse, questioning, “Why is he hitting the horse with his stick?” It seems the graceful side of polo Netflix promised isn’t quite what audiences had in mind.

One brave viewer even went so far as to declare their never-ending hatred for the sport, stating, “I will never watch this sport. I cannot take the animal abuse.” This leaves many wondering how Netflix has managed to avoid being criticized by animal rights organizations like PETA for promoting such a seemingly barbaric sport.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper Sussex affair without contradictions. The series is wrapped up in the world of excessive wealth and privilege, all while Harry and Meghan claim to be advocates for the little guy and champions of animal rights. This is particularly perplexing considering Meghan’s role as a patron of a British dog rescue organization. Meanwhile, the women involved in polo are hardly portrayed as empowered leaders. If you were hoping for strong, independent women breaking glass ceilings, you might be better off watching *The Real Housewives*. In the series, the women seem to exist solely to shop, drink, and clap from the sidelines.

The most shocking part? Meghan, a self-proclaimed feminist, appears to be completely fine with the outdated portrayal of women in polo. One critic noted, “The whole thing feels like it’s from a bygone era where women are just there to cheer from the sidelines and look pretty.” The entire series reeks of hypocrisy, as Harry and Meghan continue to portray themselves as socially conscious, forward-thinking individuals. Yet, their latest Netflix venture suggests otherwise

The couple has built their wealth by hopping from one Netflix deal to the next, all while seemingly avoiding real criticism—except from viewers who aren’t buying into their glitzy, polished facade.
