Tyler Perry Rejects Meghan Markle’s Request for Kerry Washington’s Role in New Film

Tyler Perry Rejects Meghan Markle’s Request for Kerry Washington’s Role in New Film

It seems drama isn’t confined to the characters Tyler Perry creates—it’s spilling into his real life too.

Meghan Markle reportedly expressed interest in landing a role in Perry’s upcoming Netflix film, *The 6: Tri8.* But guess what? Tyler Perry delivered a firm “no” to casting her.

Let’s take a moment to acknowledge Tyler Perry’s impressive journey. Starting as a playwright, he climbed the ladder of success to become a Hollywood powerhouse. His breakout hit, *Diary of a Mad Black Woman,* catapulted him into mainstream recognition. Since then, he’s written, directed, produced, and starred in countless projects.

His latest venture, *The 6: Tri8,* is based on the true story of an all-Black, all-female battalion in World War II. It’s a project that promises to be powerful, emotional, and historically significant.

Casting Meghan Markle would’ve been, in Perry’s eyes, a recipe for disaster. While Perry has faced criticism over the years, he’s no amateur when it comes to crafting meaningful films. Bringing in Meghan, with her minimal acting credentials, would be like throwing a wrench into a well-oiled machine.

And let’s face it—Meghan’s acting resume isn’t exactly stellar. Known primarily for her role in *Suits,* her career never truly took off. Perry, a seasoned professional who has worked with top-tier talent like Kerry Washington (the lead in *The 6: Tri8*), wouldn’t jeopardize the integrity of such an important film by casting someone whose fame largely stems from royal ties and public controversies.

Now, let’s imagine if Perry had actually cast Meghan. It’s not hard to envision the chaos. She’d likely arrive on set with an entourage, demand a private chef flown in from France, insist on around-the-clock security, and request an outrageously lavish dressing room.

And would she be easy to work with? Unlikely. Meghan’s penchant for self-promotion and insistence on creative control would probably clash with Perry’s vision. She might even demand rewrites to her lines to fit her narrative or overshadow other cast members—like the immensely talented Kerry Washington.

Another glaring issue? Meghan simply doesn’t fit the role. The women of *The 6: Tri8* were WWII-era soldiers in their 30s, representing a specific time and experience. Meghan, nearing her mid-40s, doesn’t align with that profile. And while her heritage might allow her to connect to the story’s themes, her ability to embody the role authentically is debatable.

Perry’s decision not to cast Meghan shows he’s thinking about the bigger picture. *The 6: Tri8* isn’t about celebrity drama or royal intrigue—it’s about honoring the bravery and resilience of female soldiers. Casting Meghan would risk overshadowing that narrative with media frenzy.

This decision also suggests that Perry’s relationship with Meghan isn’t as close as many might assume. If they were as tight as rumors suggest, Meghan would likely have found her way into one of Perry’s many projects by now.

But in this case, no Meghan Markle in *The 6: Tri8* is a win for the film, its cast, and its audience. Perry has once again shown he knows how to keep the focus where it belongs—on the story and the talent that brings it to life.
