Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'Under Pressure' to Create Hit Content for Netflix
John Mulaney recently took a jab at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Netflix endeavors during a live event in front of celebrities like Ben Affleck and Tina Fey.
At Wednesday's 'Next on Netflix' event at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, the comedian promoted his upcoming talk show, 'Everybody's Live With John Mulaney', and humorously mentioned the royal couple's multi-million-dollar deal with the streaming service.
Mulaney joked about his show, saying, “This will be the one place where you could see Arnold Schwarzenegger sitting next to Nikki Glaser sitting next to a family therapist with music by Mannequin Pussy.”
The comedian, 42, went on to explain that the aforementioned guests were just a small sample of the star-studded lineup that would appear on his Netflix live program, which is set to debut on March 12.
"This is a really fun experiment," he said, praising Netflix for giving him the opportunity. Then, with a cheeky reference to Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal, he quipped, **“Not since Harry and Meghan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan.”
Mulaney's remark was a clear reference to the five-year agreement the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed with Netflix in 2020, worth an estimated $100 million, to create content. The couple’s first release on the platform, the 2022 documentary series *Harry & Meghan*, offered an inside look into their relationship and their departure from royal life.
Since then, however, pressure has been mounting on the Sussexes to deliver more successful content. Following the cancellation of their animated series *Pearl* in 2022 and the underwhelming reception of their 2024 documentary *Polo*, the couple has faced increasing scrutiny.
According to *InTouch Weekly*, sources close to the situation claim that Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, are under immense pressure to produce a hit. **“The fact is, Harry and Meghan were paid an exorbitant amount of money by Netflix and have little to show for it,”** one insider revealed. **“Whether they admit it or not, the pressure is on for the Sussexes to deliver a hit.”
