Princess of Wales, Kate, Ready to Take Charge Despite Facing Criticism
Kate Middleton, one of the most beloved figures in the royal family, appears to be causing a bit of friction within the palace walls.
The Princess of Wales is reportedly “quietly preparing” for her future role as queen alongside Prince William, especially as King Charles continues his cancer treatment while maintaining public duties.
Having overcome her own nine-month cancer battle, Kate is gradually stepping back into her royal responsibilities, but the expectations for her to take on a bigger role are growing—and she seems ready to rise to the challenge.
With King Charles reportedly delegating more duties to William and Kate, the Princess has been advocating for changes within the royal family—challenging some of its centuries-old traditions.
One of Kate’s key pushes has been to reduce the extravagant pomp and ceremony often associated with the monarchy, as well as scaling back large-scale renovation projects planned for the coming years.
This stance aligns with growing criticism of royal spending. Graham Smith, CEO of Republic, an anti-monarchy lobbying group, recently criticized the monarchy for extravagant expenses.
“All the money comes from the government at a time when schools, hospitals, and police are underfunded,” Smith told *Town & Country.* “It’s scandalous. The costs should not be going up—they should be going down.”
According to a palace insider, a significant portion of government funds is earmarked for refurbishing Buckingham Palace. Given the public’s distaste for displays of royal wealth, Kate has taken a firm stance on the matter.
The Princess “wants the family to tighten their belts and show more humility,” the source shared.
Kate is also encouraging the royal family to take a more hands-on and approachable role in public life. “She’s been leading by example,” the insider explained, though not everyone is thrilled about these changes—particularly Kate’s openness to sharing more of her personal life with the public.
When Kate shared an intimate family video last September updating the public on her health, it sparked widespread debate. While some praised its authenticity, others labeled it “an astonishing invasion of privacy.”
Despite the mixed reactions, Kate remains resolute in her approach. “She wants to do more of that kind of sharing,” the source added.
King Charles has reportedly been supportive of Kate’s efforts, but it remains to be seen whether her new plans will receive full approval from the monarch, who has already introduced significant changes to the royal household.
