Meghan Markle Faces Criticism Over ‘Banal, Empty, Pointless’ PR Moves
Meghan Markle is once again in the spotlight, facing criticism over her PR strategies, with some calling them “banal, empty, and pointless.”
US correspondent Samuel Clench shared his thoughts on the matter in a piece for *News.com.au*, where he took aim at the couple’s ongoing efforts to ingratiate themselves with Hollywood’s elite. Clench criticized their lifestyle, which includes hobnobbing with the rich and famous, signing lucrative media deals, and living a lifestyle that many would find absurd, all while continually portraying themselves as victims.
This behavior, Clench pointed out, contrasts sharply with their stated desire for "privacy," leading to confusion and criticism. He added that these actions, particularly in 2024, represent “clear, stone-cold, unambiguous PR strikeouts.” The commentator argued that none of the Sussexes’ actions, including their notorious Oprah interview, have done much to win over anyone who wasn’t already sympathetic to their cause.
“What’s the point? What goal are they pursuing?” Clench questioned, pondering whether it was just about money. However, he noted, “that’s not the impression you get.”
The conversation took an even sharper turn when Clench compared Meghan’s PR team to a political media operation. “The Sussex operation really does remind you of a political media team that has no real, coherent idea of what it’s doing or what its message should be,” he remarked.
Despite the high production values and polished output—Harry and Meghan are known for using top-quality cameras and working with skilled producers—Clench dismissed their efforts as ultimately hollow. “Everything they produce is so banal. So empty. So vacuous and pointless. It’s all form with no function; all optics with no substance,” he concluded.
