Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Criticized as 'Disaster Tourists' Amid Efforts to Aid LA Fire Victims
Meghan Markle remains committed to assisting victims of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, despite facing harsh criticism and being labeled a "disaster tourist."
In a video shared by the Altadena Girls Fire Recovery Fund on Instagram, the Duchess of Sussex was seen delivering large bags of donations, including clothes, beauty products, and other essential items for those affected by the fires. Meghan kept her appearance low-key, donning black leggings, a t-shirt, and an LA-branded cap.
This charitable effort follows the couple's recent participation in food distribution at a center in Pasadena, which drew mixed reactions from the public. While many praised their actions, others accused the couple of leveraging tragedy for publicity.
Producer Justine Bateman voiced her criticism on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Meghan Markle and Harry are no better than ambulance chasers. What a repulsive ‘photo op’ they achieved. They are ‘touring the damage’? Are they politicians now? They don't live here; they are tourists. Disaster tourists. #PalisadesFire.”
In response, a source close to the Sussexes addressed the backlash, telling *Page Six*, "It’s offensive to Meghan and Harry that anybody would think this is merely a photo opportunity.”
Despite the criticism, Meghan and Harry continue their efforts to support fire victims, staying focused on their charitable goals while facing scrutiny from detractors.
