Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Overlook Man in Wheelchair at Convention Center

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Criticized for Tone-Deaf Appearance at Pasadena Convention Center

The wildfires in Los Angeles have caused untold devastation, leaving thousands of people facing unimaginable loss. Amid the chaos, who should appear but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle—seemingly determined to prove themselves as heroes of the hour.

Because, of course, when disaster strikes, what better way to respond than with a carefully orchestrated public appearance? The Sussexes, known for turning almost anything into a PR opportunity, made their grand entrance at the Pasadena Convention Center. Cameras? Naturally in tow.

The pair were seen alongside California’s First Lady, Jennifer Newsom, handing out food parcels—a seemingly noble gesture. But a closer look at their visit has sparked backlash. A TikTok video captured the couple walking past several struggling individuals, including a man in a wheelchair, without so much as a glance of acknowledgment.

How do you not notice someone in a wheelchair in a disaster zone? Perhaps the victims didn’t fit into their carefully crafted photo ops.

Critics have pointed to Meghan’s body language, with her expression appearing more focused on moving quickly through the event than on offering genuine support. Her demeanor seemed to say, *“Why am I even here?”*—as if she’d rather be back at her sprawling mansion, surrounded by her celebrity friends.

Meanwhile, Harry appeared to play a supporting role, smiling for the cameras but otherwise blending into the background.

After a few pre-approved hugs and carefully staged moments of “compassion,” the couple darted off, as though racing to their next engagement. They brought no supplies—no blankets, food, or other necessities. Their contribution? Simply their presence, which they might have thought was gift enough.

For Meghan Markle, it seems, just showing up counts as charity.

Adding to the criticism was the couple’s decision to bring along a full security detail. While other celebrities were seen helping quietly and blending in, Harry and Meghan stood out with their entourage, raising eyebrows about the true intent of their visit.

Many have labeled the Sussexes as “disaster tourists,” accusing them of showing up for the optics, taking a few pictures, and leaving before any real work began. Their actions were in stark contrast to other celebrities who genuinely rolled up their sleeves to help without fanfare.

The visit has left many questioning whether Harry and Meghan’s focus lies on making a difference or maintaining their public image. As the victims of the wildfires continue to rebuild their lives, one thing is clear: genuine support doesn’t require a camera crew.
