Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may soon announce plans to leave their 13-bedroom home in Montecito's exclusive gated community, seeking peace of mind and better mental health, according to recent reports.
The couple, who relocated to Montecito in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties in the UK, are reportedly preparing to bid farewell to their £12 million property.
The tranquility of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has been shattered as their neighborhood faces disruptions caused by sonic booms linked to Elon Musk’s space company. Hundreds of local residents have voiced their concerns and taken action.
According to *The Express*, neighbors have turned to an online community bulletin board to express their frustration over noise pollution stemming from SpaceX operations.
More than 1,300 residents have signed a petition opposing an increase in rocket launches, which would raise the number from 36 to 50 annually.
The petition states:
*"The booms from rocket launches disrupt sleep patterns, elevate stress levels, and erode the overall quality of life for residents living near launch sites. Sensitive wildlife may also be disoriented by these sudden, intense sounds."*
Reports from the *Daily Mail* reveal that SpaceX conducts regular launches from Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB) in California, which lies approximately 60 miles from Montecito. In 2023, the United States Space Force leased a second launchpad at the base to SpaceX, enabling the company to expand operations, including Falcon 9 rocket launches.
Residents have also taken to social media to express their discontent. One Californian wrote:
*"Enough! Let's stop the disruptive, arrogant sonic booms at night! This insane frequency and quantity needs regulation; it’s just terrible. I could hear the house creaking."*
Another added:
*"The unexpected, sporadic, frequent booms at all hours completely disrupt our household and our peace of mind. Everyone in the house – including all humans and pets – reacts with anxiousness and fear every time."*
Built in 1941, Vandenberg Space Force Base has been the center of controversy as the petition on Change.org gathers signatures. Most supporters are residents of Santa Barbara and surrounding areas across California, highlighting widespread concern over the impact of SpaceX operations on local communities.
