Prince William Adopts a Modern Approach with Selfies and Video Messages

Traditionally, members of the Royal Family have maintained a degree of distance when it comes to public interactions like selfies. The late Queen Elizabeth famously avoided taking selfies, often declining such requests with polite grace.

King Charles has been slightly more accommodating, allowing photos but still showing some hesitation toward the selfie trend. However, Prince William is breaking with tradition by embracing a more contemporary style of engagement, frequently participating in selfies and recording personal video messages.

In November, Prince William went viral on TikTok after he playfully recorded a video with a university student, helping her explain her tardiness to a lecturer.

During his visit to South Africa, he also delighted fans by taking a selfie with Robert Irwin, the son of the late conservationist Steve Irwin.

More recently, William recorded a selfie-style video message to wish England Rugby Union coach Kevin Sinfield good luck as he undertook a charity challenge in support of Rob Burrow.

When asked by Irwin about his favorite African animal, the Prince gave a warm and thoughtful answer: “It’s a tough question. My children ask me this all the time. I think I’ll go with the cheetah – a fantastic animal.”

This shift in the royal family’s approach to selfies and modern communication reflects a growing desire to connect with the public in a more relatable and accessible way.
