Meghan Markle and Taylor Swift Drama Explodes: Netflix Ratings Plunge Amid Feud

There’s no doubt that Netflix is in full-on panic mode over its "With Love, Meghan" series. The drama surrounding Season 2—or rather, what many consider to be an extension of Season 1—has caused a major divide among Netflix executives and board members. The situation is only getting worse as time goes on, and the controversy surrounding Meghan Markle continues to create headaches for the streaming giant.

Meghan has been losing key connections with various Hollywood studios, many of which served as her backup plan. Now, in an effort to remain relevant, she’s scrambling to keep herself in the spotlight. But it’s becoming increasingly clear that "With Love, Meghan" is turning into a disaster.

Reports have already surfaced that Meghan has been attempting to involve high-profile figures like Governor Gavin Newsom and Vice President Kamala Harris in episodes three and six of Season 2. However, the biggest controversy revolves around her ongoing attempt to secure Taylor Swift for a cameo—a move that has backfired spectacularly.

It’s no secret that Meghan previously reached out to Taylor Swift to appear on her now-defunct Spotify podcast, only to be rejected outright. But that rejection didn’t deter her. Meghan and her Netflix backers made yet another attempt to lure Swift onto "With Love, Meghan." Unfortunately for them, Taylor and her team wanted nothing to do with the project—or the drama that follows Meghan everywhere she goes.

After the first rejection, a second negotiation was initiated, spearheaded by Meghan and the 60% of the Netflix board that still supports her. Yet again, Taylor’s team firmly declined the offer, making it clear that they had no interest in being associated with Meghan’s brand or the backlash that often comes with it. But Meghan wasn’t done just yet.

In addition to "With Love, Meghan," she is developing another podcast, separate from her recently announced one focused on entrepreneurs. This new podcast will reportedly center around celebrities discussing their challenges in the public eye. Desperate for high-profile guests, Meghan once again reached out to Taylor Swift’s team, practically begging her to participate in the new project, which is tentatively titled "Meghan’s Roundtable."

For the third time, Taylor’s team rejected Meghan’s request—this time going as far as to personally inform Meghan’s representatives that they were not interested in any further negotiations. Meghan was reportedly devastated by this latest rejection, as it cemented the fact that Taylor Swift wants no association with her.

This latest setback highlights just how much Meghan is struggling to attract A-list talent. After being rejected multiple times by Taylor Swift, she is now pivoting to other celebrities in hopes of salvaging both "With Love, Meghan" and her upcoming podcast. While she aims to recruit actors and singers willing to discuss topics like diversity, equity, and inclusion, the reality is that Meghan’s reputation may be making it difficult for her to secure guests.

Netflix executives are also in turmoil over these developments. According to reports, the streaming giant had already storyboarded an entire scene featuring Taylor Swift for "With Love, Meghan" Season 2. The scene, set at Zuma Beach, was supposed to feature Taylor singing for children alongside other celebrities, including Mindy Kaling. With Taylor’s firm refusal, Netflix has been forced to scrap the entire segment, throwing production into further chaos.

To make matters worse, Netflix CEO Greg Peters is reportedly growing increasingly concerned about Meghan’s push to involve politicians in the series. He had previously suggested canceling "With Love, Meghan" altogether or at least rethinking its marketing strategy, but those warnings were ignored. Now, the project is in jeopardy, and Netflix is losing customers who are turned off by Meghan’s involvement with the platform.

This situation has only reinforced the idea that Meghan Markle’s brand is more of a liability than an asset. Many believe she saw Taylor Swift as a potential gateway to a broader audience—specifically, Taylor’s massive "Swiftie" fanbase. By securing Taylor’s participation, Meghan likely hoped to draw in Swift’s supporters and turn them into fans of her own. But with Taylor completely shutting her out, that strategy has collapsed.

Netflix’s gamble on Meghan Markle appears to be backfiring. While some board members continue to stand by her, the increasing backlash, production chaos, and high-profile rejections suggest that "With Love, Meghan" may be doomed before it even premieres. Only time will tell if Netflix will continue to double down on the project or finally cut its losses.
