Prince Harry Breathes a Sigh of Relief After Latest Development in US Visa Case
Prince Harry appears to be in a favorable position following the latest turn of events in the ongoing US visa case dispute.
The Duke of Sussex's visa records have been partially unsealed, albeit with significant redactions, after a US judge ordered the release of the documents in response to a Freedom of Information request filed by the Heritage Foundation.
While key details about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain private, the ruling has sparked concerns that Harry could be vulnerable to "harm and harassment."
A conservative US think tank had accused Prince Harry of concealing past drug use when he moved to the United States in 2020, citing revelations from his 2023 memoir, *Spare*.
In the book, Harry admitted to first trying cocaine at the age of 17, writing: "It wasn't much fun, but it did make me feel different, and that was the main goal." He further explained, "Cocaine didn't do anything for me, but marijuana is different—that actually really did help me."
Last year, Judge Carl Nichols ruled in favor of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), stating that the public interest did not outweigh Harry’s right to privacy. However, in a recent reversal, he ordered the government to submit redacted versions of the application documents to the court docket.
The newly released documents reveal very little, with no details disclosed about what the Duke stated on his immigration form.
This ruling seems to offer King Charles III’s younger son some protection, as a chief Freedom of Information officer within the US Department for Homeland Security argued that making Harry’s visa documents public "would potentially expose the individual to harm from members of the public."
In a statement submitted to the court last April, Jarrod Panter declared: "To release such information would potentially expose the individual to harm from members of the public who might have a reason to manipulate or harass individuals depending on their status in the United States."
He further stated, "Releasing his exact status could subject him to reasonably foreseeable harm in the form of harassment as well as unwanted contact from the media and others."
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump has already shared his stance on Harry’s US residency, making it clear that he has no intention of deporting the Duke.
For now, Prince Harry can breathe a sigh of relief as a potentially troublesome situation seems to have been defused—for the time being.
