Meghan Markle on Mental Health: How Motherhood Helped Her Set Boundaries in the Public Eye
The Duchess of Sussex Gets Candid at TIME100 Summit
Meghan Markle is embracing boundaries — and it’s her children who’ve taught her just how vital they are. Speaking at the TIME100 Summit in New York City on April 23, the Duchess of Sussex opened up about protecting her mental health while navigating relentless public attention.
Creating Space for Mental Wellness
During her conversation with TIME CEO Jessica Sibley, Meghan shared how intentional she has become about her emotional well-being.
“I’ve made a very, very conscious effort to create boundaries for myself and for my mental health, for my well-being and certainly to role model that as well for my children,” she explained.
The 43-year-old former actress and philanthropist highlighted the importance of leading by example, especially now that she's raising two young children.
Why Meghan Avoids Reading Online Reactions
Meghan revealed that she steers clear of online commentary — whether it’s about her Netflix docuseries With Love, Meghan, her lifestyle brand As Ever, or her latest podcast project Confessions of a Female Founder.
Citing a memorable quote from comedian Tina Fey, Meghan said:
“If you ever start to feel good about yourself, they have this thing called the internet… and you can find a lot of people there who don't like you.”
How Her Children Inspired Healthier Boundaries
The Duchess emphasized that being a mom to Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, has helped her reframe her approach to both self-care and public life.
“I’m conscious of not just raising a very strong and confident young woman, but also having a son,” she noted. “It starts with whatever is going on internally.”
Her words reflect a deep commitment to nurturing emotional intelligence at home, while also protecting her own peace.
