Use of "HRH The Duchess of Sussex" Branded as Hypocritical
In an interview with The Sun, royal expert Katie Nicholl questioned Meghan’s decision to sign a recent gift basket with “HRH The Duchess of Sussex.” The move has been described as walking into “murky territory,” especially considering Meghan’s past criticism of the royal institution.
Meghan Markle Accused of Holding Onto Royal Privileges
Nicholl highlighted the apparent contradiction in Meghan’s actions. Although the Duchess has openly criticized the British royal family, including in her recent podcast, she continues to use a title that symbolizes the very institution she’s distanced herself from.
“It just poses a bit of a hypocrisy element,” Nicholl noted. “You’ve attacked this institution many, many times, and yet you want to retain the perks and privileges of being part of it.”
Expert: Meghan Markle No Longer Needs Royal Titles
According to Nicholl, there’s no formal obligation for Meghan to keep using titles like HRH or Duchess of Sussex, especially since she has adopted Prince Harry’s surname.
“She doesn’t need to be using the HRH title,” the expert added. “She doesn’t really need to be using ‘Duchess of Sussex’ either, but of course, that sets her apart from everyone else—including Hollywood’s A-list.”
