Princess Kate and Prince Philip's Advice
Princess Kate, now the Princess of Wales, once received some very special advice from Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, when she was newly joining the royal family.
Back then, Prince Philip, who served as the Queen’s consort for many years, was actually very happy with Prince William's choice of partner. He thought Kate was a smart, grounded, and sensible woman—exactly the kind of person needed for the demanding role of being a future queen.
According to royal author Gyles Brandreth, who was close to Prince Philip, he gave Kate some serious guidance about life in the spotlight. His biggest advice? Never let public attention or popularity go to your head.
Prince Philip had seen what happened with Princess Diana, who was extremely popular, but he believed that her fame eventually became overwhelming. He warned that royals must always remember one thing: they are not celebrities. Their fame is about their duties, not about them as individuals.
He reportedly told Kate something very direct:
"Don’t look at the camera."
This was the same habit Queen Elizabeth followed, to keep the focus on the role, not the person.
To this day, Princess Kate continues to follow that advice, showing her commitment to the royal values and responsibilities. It’s one of the reasons many people respect her and see her as a steady, graceful figure in the royal family.
