Meghan Markle continues to be at the center of tensions between Prince Harry and the British Royal Family. Many royal commentators believe she has become the “flea in the ointment” — the person making peace and reconciliation nearly impossible.
Why Meghan is Seen as a Problem
Since moving to the U.S. with Prince Harry, Meghan has been accused of fueling the rift with her claims about racism in the Royal Family and reports of her difficult behavior with staff. Royal expert Ingrid Seward said Meghan is “intensely disliked” by many monarchists in the U.K. and even in the U.S., because she openly criticized both her in-laws and her own family.
Her strained relationship with her father, Thomas Markle Sr., is also part of the controversy. He has never met Prince Harry or his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet. To many, that adds to the image of Meghan cutting ties in pursuit of control over her life and image.
Harry’s Struggles
While Meghan remains in the spotlight with her projects and lifestyle branding, Harry is seen by critics as increasingly lost. He reportedly wants to reconnect with King Charles and Prince William, but they don’t trust him. The fear is that any private conversation could later appear in books, interviews, or Netflix shows.
At the same time, Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal has been downsized, raising questions about whether they can maintain their luxury lifestyle without royal support. Critics even suggest Harry may try to rely again on the “Bank of Dad,” something Charles has resisted.
Why Peace Seems Impossible
For the Royal Family, the biggest obstacle to repairing relationships appears to be Meghan herself. Ingrid Seward and other royal watchers believe that as long as she’s part of the picture, Prince William and King Charles will not seek reconciliation.
Instead, their focus remains on more serious issues — such as supporting King Charles and Kate Middleton as they face health battles — while leaving Harry and Meghan to their own lives in California.
