Meghan Markle’s dad, Thomas Markle, is opening up about his new romance and wants everyone to know he’s happy.
The 81-year-old former Hollywood lighting director says he’s found love with Rio Canedo, 46, who helped him through a life-changing leg amputation. Despite the critics, Markle says he’s thrilled to have someone by his side after years of feeling “sad and neglected.”
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Thomas shared that Rio has brought him “peace and happiness” during a challenging time. In a rare public update, he attended a Valentine’s Day party at the rehabilitation center in the Philippines, where he is recovering, and even enjoyed lunch with the hospital staff.
He also gave a health update, saying he’s being “very well taken care of” and is grateful for all the support he’s receiving. “I’m adjusting slowly and doing a lot of physiotherapy,” he explained.
Thomas added that he’s “feeling very happy” and making progress, though he admits there’s still “a long way to go” before he fully adjusts to his new circumstances. He also expressed hope for reconciliation with Meghan and a chance to meet his grandchildren.
