Princess Anne’s Take on Meghan Markle After Key Meeting
Princess Anne, known for her unwavering support of the monarchy, has consistently shown her dedication to maintaining royal traditions.
Despite her close relationship with Prince Harry, the Princess Royal reportedly had doubts about his decision to marry Meghan Markle, the former Suits star, according to royal biographer Tom Bower.
Anne appeared to form an immediate opinion of Meghan, confiding to a London friend about her true feelings toward her nephew’s fiancée.
“She was consumed by red carpet fever,” Anne allegedly remarked. “It seemed nothing could stop her from seeking the spotlight.”
Bower also noted that before the 2018 royal wedding, Meghan received a briefing from a senior Palace official. Afterward, the official reportedly warned Queen Elizabeth II that Meghan might be “trouble” and could struggle to fit into royal life.
Some royal observers have suggested that the Queen had limited options at the time, as rejecting Meghan could have led to accusations of racism. Yet, Harry and Meghan still faced criticism after their 2021 Oprah interview, which highlighted alleged “concerns” within the Palace about Archie’s skin tone even before his birth.
On the other hand, some supporters argue that Princess Anne may never have made such statements.
Since stepping back from their senior royal roles in 2020, Harry and Meghan have relocated to Montecito. Meghan has focused on individual projects and may be preparing for a substantial Hollywood return, following her cameo appearance in Close Personal Friends.
