Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, is reportedly worried about the future of his royal titles. According to a recent report, the 41-year-old royal worried that he could be stripped of his titles by his brother, Prince William, once he becomes King.
Since stepping back from royal duties six years ago, Harry has lived a quieter life in Montecito with his wife Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. While he no longer has official royal responsibilities, he retains titles such as Prince and Duke of Sussex, which he continues to use.
Despite holding these titles, Harry remains worried about the possibility of losing them. The concern reportedly stems from family history, particularly the removal of titles from his disgraced uncle, Prince Andrew. This has left Harry worried that a similar situation could occur when William ascends the throne.
Author Tom Bower, in his book Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, writes that Harry is worried the future King William could remove the Sussex titles, effectively limiting his role and presence in the UK. While this fear has not been expressed publicly by Harry, sources suggest it remains a private concern.
Prince William, who is first in line to the throne, has not commented on these claims. However, the speculation highlights why Harry continues to be worried about his royal standing despite living abroad.
Harry received the title of The Duke of Sussex on his wedding day in 2018, while Meghan became The Duchess of Sussex. These titles, granted by Queen Elizabeth II, continue to carry personal and public significance, which partly explains why Harry remains worried about their potential loss.
Meghan previously emphasized the importance of the Sussex title, describing it as their family name. She told People: “It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children. I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me.”
Even though the couple resides in America and no immediate action threatens their titles, Harry is reportedly worried that future changes in the monarchy could impact their status. Royal experts suggest this ongoing concern is understandable, given the scrutiny and expectations surrounding the family.
