According to reports cited by Radar Online, tensions allegedly grew when Meghan reportedly became aware of how royal finances and allowances were structured within the family hierarchy. An insider, speaking to editor-in-chief Dan Wakeford in a Substack commentary, suggested that the arrangement played a significant role in her mindset, stating that once she understood Prince William would remain in charge of financial matters for the long term, she reportedly felt it was time to leave.
“When she realized that William was going to be in charge of how much they were getting for the rest of their lives, she wanted out,” the source claimed.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle publicly explained their 2020 departure from senior royal duties as a move toward financial independence and a more self-sufficient life. Since stepping back, the couple has focused on building independent careers and business ventures outside the monarchy.
In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry also reflected on financial discussions within the royal household, recalling comments attributed to King Charles regarding royal expenses. Harry wrote that when he mentioned Meghan’s intention to leave her acting career before their engagement, Charles reportedly expressed concern about financial strain.
“There’s not enough money to go around,” Charles is quoted as saying in the memoir, alongside remarks about supporting Prince William and Princess Catherine.
Despite these accounts and ongoing public debate, there has been no official confirmation regarding the exact personal reasons behind Meghan Markle’s decision to leave royal life.
