Meghan Markle Wanted to Join Queen Elizabeth’s Final Moments Due to Jealousy Toward Kate Middleton, Claims Royal Author
A royal expert has shared new insight into why Meghan Markle reportedly wanted to be present at Queen Elizabeth II’s deathbed — and he says jealousy may have played a major role.
Author Claims Meghan Wanted “Historic Moment” Photos
Royal biographer Tom Bower alleges that the Duchess of Sussex pushed to be at Balmoral during the late monarch’s final hours because she wanted to be seen as part of a major royal moment.
Speaking on Kinsey Schofield’s Unfiltered podcast, Bower said Meghan hoped to be photographed at the Queen’s bedside and wanted to appear just as significant as Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales.
Meghan and Harry Were Already in the UK
At the time of Queen Elizabeth’s sudden health decline, Meghan and Prince Harry were in the UK for the WellChild Awards.
The couple’s proximity only intensified Meghan’s alleged desire to travel to Balmoral.
A Shift in Meghan’s Position, According to the Book
In Bower’s new biography, Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, he writes that Meghan previously had no interest in visiting Balmoral — especially after stepping back from her senior royal role in 2020.
But that reportedly changed when the Queen’s condition became critical.
“She Saw It as a Major Photo Opportunity”
According to Bower, Meghan viewed the Queen’s final moments as a rare, history-making moment in which she wanted to be included.
“She wanted to be there for the photo opportunity. She knew it was a historic moment,”
Bower claimed during the interview.
He added that Meghan wanted to show she was just as important as Kate on the eve of returning to the U.S.
Motivated by Image and Status, Author Says
Bower further alleged that Meghan’s intentions were centered on her own profile and public standing:
“Everything she did was motivated by one agenda — her own fame and importance.”
He concluded by saying that this was the driving reason she wanted to accompany Harry to Balmoral during the Queen’s final hours.
