Before setting off on a scenic cruise across Sydney’s famous harbour with members of the Invictus Games community, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex met veteran Joel Vanderzwan. As a light-hearted gift, he handed them personalised flip-flops featuring the playful phrases “G’day Hazza” and “G’day Megs,” adding a local touch to the encounter.
During the interaction, Meghan spoke with the veteran’s daughter, Charlotte, and mentioned that Harry was “very good at twirling.” Encouraged by the moment, Harry happily stood up and twirled the young girl when she asked him to dance, creating a cheerful and memorable scene.
The Invictus Australia organisation later shared a video of the interaction on Instagram, capturing both the dance moment and the exchange of gifts. The post humorously highlighted the significance of the present, noting that it was hard to find a more “iconically Aussie” gift than a pair of thongs (flip-flops for those unfamiliar with the term).
The organisation also explained that Joel Vanderzwan, an alumnus of the Invictus Games The Hague 2022, and his family had presented the personalised footwear to Harry and Meghan ahead of their harbour cruise with Invictus Games Team Australia alumni and their families.
In a separate message, Invictus Australia expressed appreciation for the couple’s visit, thanking Prince Harry and Meghan for spending meaningful time with Team Australia alumni during their day on Sydney Harbour.
