The debate intensified after Meghan posted several Easter-themed videos of the children on Instagram, sparking claims of inconsistency from commentators and royal watchers. Royal biographer Duncan Larcombe joined TalkTV host Mark Dolan to discuss the issue, arguing that the couple’s messaging does not align with their actions.
Larcombe noted that while Harry and Meghan frequently speak about the dangers of social media and the need to protect young people online, they also use their children in posts that attract significant public attention. “They talk about valuing privacy, yet they’re sharing personal family content,” Dolan said, questioning whether the Sussexes are trying to “have it both ways.”
In response, Larcombe agreed, saying, “They’ve always wanted the benefits of stepping away from royal life without actually stepping away from the public spotlight. They left the U.K. on the premise that they wouldn’t operate as working royals anymore—and yet they continue to do high-profile tours to places like Australia and Jordan. It’s very much about promoting themselves.”
He added that using their children in social media content while publicly advocating for stricter protections seems like a clear contradiction. “It’s difficult to reconcile,” he said. “They speak about privacy concerns and then share footage of their own kids to generate publicity.”
Larcombe acknowledged that Meghan avoids showing the children’s faces directly, including in the recent Easter clips that only captured Archie and Lilibet from behind during an egg hunt. Even so, he questioned whether hiding their faces truly makes a meaningful difference in the wider argument.
Despite stepping away from formal royal duties, Harry and Meghan continue to face scrutiny over their media choices. The latest Instagram videos have once again fueled the ongoing conversation about how the couple balances personal privacy with their global public presence.
