The Duchess of Sussex hasn't just turned the British monarchy upside down; she's also established her own form of communication… Lipstick!
If we had to organize Meghan Markle's life into stages, it would probably be something like this: before the wedding, after the wedding, and after Megxit, the name given to Harry and Meghan's departure from England. Like the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, the former actress's life has been quite eventful in the last four years. However, you might think that the only thing that has remained constant is her makeup, but nothing could be further from the truth.
Although Meghan Markle has always been more of an eyes person than a lips person, it's in her lips that her mood is truly reflected, and we can assure you that there are three distinct Meghan states, that is, three lipsticks that have marked her days as a member of the British royal family.
The Nude of Discretion
This is probably the lip color we always picture Meghan wearing. It's discreet, perfectly acceptable, and flatters her skin tone. Before meeting Harry, during her acting career, Meghan Markle wore nude lipstick almost daily, both on and off screen.
From the moment Meghan and Harry's engagement was announced until their wedding day, we only ever saw Meghan wearing this one lip color. That said, the daring Duchess still dared to experiment with different textures and finishes. One of our favorite lipsticks was a rosy nude that almost looked like the shade of a cherry, but very natural.
However, Meghan stopped experimenting with different shades and glossy finishes after becoming the Duchess of Sussex, relying solely on a very moisturizing, slightly coral-tinted nude lipstick. Whether traveling to other continents or attending charity events, she always wore the same lipstick. The message was clear: to go unnoticed and remain in the background.
The Pink of Love
Without a doubt, one of the Duchess's favorite colors is pink. Right after her wedding, we saw her wearing pastel pink looks for several days, reflecting the sweet phase she was experiencing. She not only wore pastel colors, but also used them in her makeup, along with a generous layer of highlighter.
On the day of her engagement announcement, Meghan Markle also chose a slightly pink lipstick, a very subtle, powdery nude that softened her features. During her engagement, Meghan alternated between nude and soft pink lipsticks, natural and romantic.
But the full-blown pink boom came after the wedding. Meghan's lip honeymoon consisted of very intense light pink lipsticks, which she paired with blush in the same shade. In other words, the newlywed exuded a healthy, spring-like, and very romantic look.
The Red of Daring
After the nude phase, almost like Picasso's blue, during which the Duchess showed off her pregnancy, became a mother, and faded while planning her departure from the palace, very moisturizing nude lipsticks became her uniform. She occasionally lined her lips to make them appear fuller, but the result wasn't very flattering. Meghan Markle's mission was to stay out of the spotlight and try to maintain stability in her life, surviving the rumors and the critical eye of the press with a sober look.
But then came Megxit, and Meghan managed to "escape" to Canada and return to what had been her life before Harry. While strolling through natural landscapes surrounded by bodyguards, Meghan regained her Hollywood star essence: her skin tone improved and she became radiant again, and her entire body returned to its former shape.
Thus we arrive at the "Meghanza" look. Never has a rainy afternoon held as much magic as the one at the Endeavour Fund Awards, where Harry and Meghan returned from Canada. Meghan's entire look was a statement of intent, colorful and exuding style. But, in addition to the clothes and her super-sized ponytail, her makeup had changed. Her skin, more radiant after her retirement, rest, and the occasional exclusive beauty treatment, found all the necessary touch in a juicy, reddish lipstick.
While Meghan Markle was part of the royal family and lived in England, her lips never strayed from their nude base. Yes, they were sometimes pink, but a romantic and formal pink. However, upon her return to the royal spotlight, Meghan chose a cherry-colored lipstick with a touch of shimmer to make her face glow and show who was in charge… Although the next day she returned to her orangey, formal nude… But she certainly had her moment.
