Meghan Markle's tricks for wearing black and white pants, skirts, and dresses

The Duchess of Sussex has recently appeared in an all-black ensemble, but it's not the first time she's mastered the art of monochrome.

Meghan Markle has created a very defined style formula. In her life after leaving Kensington Palace, the Duchess of Sussex has transitioned from royal attire to a much more relaxed and casual East Coast style, with basics like linen shirts and straight-leg jeans becoming staples in her everyday looks. She's never far from wearing a Carolina Herrera dress and has slipped into a Max Mara cashmere ensemble. She's a Montecito mom, with a touch of elegance and sophisticated details.

And while some of Markle's most recent appearances have confirmed her penchant for haute couture, the Duchess knows when to rely on her go-to pieces. Yesterday, Meghan Markle was photographed at the Godmothers bookstore near her Montecito home at an event for her friend Courtney Adamo. She wore a simple silk tank top, black tailored trousers, and black strappy sandals. Her hair was pulled back in a low bun, and she wore minimalist, bronzed makeup. The overall look was appropriately understated and discreet.

Later, Markle and Adamo took to the stage to promote Adamo's book, The Family Home: Inspiring Ideas for a Home Filled with Joy.

Monochrome is one of Meghan Markle's style principles. For her recent trip to Paris Fashion Week and to sit front row at Balenciaga, she wore an all-white ensemble from the label, including a cape and trousers. A second custom Balenciaga look featured Markle in a black silk dress with a draped neckline. As a lover of elegant suits (and currently on a Haute Couture kick), Markle opted for a chic black Armani suit at a recent Project Healthy Minds event in New York, where she walked the red carpet with her husband, Prince Harry. In her Netflix series, Love, Meghan, the Duchess is often seen dressed head-to-toe in knitwear and silks in shades of ecru and oatmeal.

With the upcoming holiday episode of the TV show and more releases from her lifestyle brand, As Ever, we expect to see more of Meghan Markle and her signature neutral colors.
