In remission from cancer for 18 months, Princess Kate takes on the 'Three Peaks Challenge'

The "Three Peaks Challenge" involves climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales to raise money for charities. The Princess of Wales, in remission from cancer, took on the challenge this past weekend.

Princess Kate participated on June 27th and 28th in the "National Three Peaks Challenge," a charity hike that involves climbing the three highest peaks in the United Kingdom in 24 hours: Ben Nevis, the highest peak in Scotland (1,345 meters), Scarfell Pike, the highest peak in England (978m), and Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales (1,085m).

“I took on the ‘National Three Peaks Challenge’ not just as a physical challenge, but also as an opportunity to explore life beyond diagnosis and to make a contribution,” the Princess of Wales posted in a lengthy message on Sunday.

In remission from cancer since January 2025, after a year of treatment, the 44-year-old princess has since gradually resumed her activities. She recently undertook a solo official trip to Italy. Now deeply involved in the fight against cancer, the princess has also spoken about the shock of the diagnosis. Prince William described this period as the “worst year of his life.”

“I know this firsthand.”

“Cancer doesn’t just affect the body,” Kate added in her social media post. “It changes the way you think and feel and profoundly affects every aspect of life. I know this firsthand, and that the journey during and after treatment requires more than medicine alone.”

The princess was greeted at the end of her challenge by her husband, Prince William, and her children, George (soon to be 13), Charlotte (11), and Louis (8), as well as her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and her brother, James, according to the BBC.

The announcement in April 2024 of the Princess of Wales's cancer diagnosis came as a shock to her family and to the British public. This was especially true given that King Charles III had announced just a few weeks earlier that he too had cancer. Neither has disclosed the nature of their cancer, but both have chosen a degree of transparency regarding their health, a departure from the royal family's previous policy.
