The Duchess of Sussex's hairstylist reveals his technique for creating her ultra-shiny waves.
Her long brown hair is always impeccably styled: Meghan Markle can thank British hairstylist George Northwood for this hair discipline. He was notably responsible for the Duchess of Sussex's memorable ponytail when she attended the Endeavour Awards in London in 2020. More recently, Prince Harry's wife once again entrusted her hair to the expert for her latest public appearance.
While attending the Invictus Games in The Hague a few days ago, Meghan Markle appeared with perfectly sculpted waves and stunningly shiny lengths. A style favored by the former actress, which George Northwood describes as "more polished, loose waves that still give a luxurious feel," he explains in British Vogue magazine... before revealing his technique for recreating the hairstyle yourself.
Drying
"It's essential to create a good base. So instead of a rough blow-dry, dry your hair gently," advises the hairstylist. "If you opt for a center part, dry the front of your hair towards the front—this will create a sweeping movement when you part it later."
The Styling
Then comes the styling. The pro tip for achieving this sophisticated look? "Using a curling iron with a clip, go around your head, taking sections of hair and curling them." "Wrap the curler away from your face, at the front of your hair, and focus on the mid-lengths rather than the roots and ends to create a wave rather than a curl," the expert continues.
For a more natural effect, the hairstylist suggests a method to loosen the curler: "Once you've removed the curler from each section, pull the hair straight up so it cools, creating softer waves. Finally, use your fingers or a flat brush to smooth it out."
Shine
As for silky smoothness, George Northwood relies heavily on hair care to add a touch of "glow" to the final result. "Aim for a luxurious, glossy finish. Shine sprays, creams, or serums are perfect for helping to make hair smooth," he recommends. We'll keep that in mind.
