According to a source who spoke with PEOPLE, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex value the privacy Portugal offers, allowing Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to experience childhood without constant media scrutiny.
The couple visited Portugal in early July 2026 but only confirmed the trip publicly on July 23, 2026, when they shared photos from their vacation.
The insider explained that privacy was the primary reason behind delaying the announcement.
“They love Portugal because Archie and Lilibet can simply be kids. It’s always very low-key with beach days, playing and spending time together as a family,” the source said.
The insider added that spending uninterrupted time together is a top priority for the Sussex family.
“That kind of normal family time is really important to Harry and Meghan.”
