According to a statement released by the charity organizing the event, Harry and Marshall first crossed paths last year and instantly connected over their shared military backgrounds. Marshall, who trained as a paratrooper during World War II, spent years serving his country, while Harry dedicated a decade to the British Army, including two deployments to Afghanistan where he worked as a Forward Air Controller and flew Apache helicopters.
The charity revealed that Harry was stunned when Marshall told him about the skydive he had already completed to celebrate turning 100 years old. That story inspired the Duke of Sussex to plan a jump of his own, this time alongside Marshall's family.
