What do Kate Middleton (and her hairstylist) do to ensure her hair is always so shiny, voluminous, and beautiful?
It is hard to believe that "bad hair days" ever appear in Kate Middleton's schedule. Among the hundreds of photos of her circulating from official engagements or her daily life, it is virtually impossible to find even one where her hair doesn't look amazing. We reveal the products she uses and her hair care routine that keeps her hair looking so beautiful.
Daily Care
For her daily hair care, Kate uses shampoo and conditioner containing essential oils that control frizz (let's not forget she lives in England). Her favorites are from the Kérastase Nutritive Bain Oléo-Relax line. To keep her hair hydrated, she applies a silk-infused cream after washing, which also protects it from high styling temperatures.
Styling
According to British royal reporter Ashley Pearson, her favorite hairstyle is curls. Prince William also loves her hair styled in curls, which is why she chose that look for their wedding ceremony. Although she obviously has a personal hairstylist at her disposal, she often prefers to style her hair herself. On such occasions, she usually straightens her hair with a blow-dryer and then quickly wraps it in rollers, leaving them in until the hair has cooled completely.
For more formal events, her hairstylist begins by thoroughly brushing her hair with an anti-static, anti-frizz brush. He then divides the hair into sections and sprays each one with a volumizing product. While the hair is still damp—but not overly wet—he starts blow-drying. As her hairstylist, Richard Ward, has explained, one secret is to avoid moving the blow-dryer from side to side while drying, as this causes frizz. Instead, the correct technique is to hold the nozzle steady near the roots while lifting them with a brush. Then, keeping the blow-dryer stationary, use a natural-bristle brush to style each section individually until the hair is completely dry and the hair cuticles are sealed. For even greater volume, once Richard Ward finishes blow-drying, he places a few Velcro rollers near the roots, mists them with hairspray, and then removes them. After perfecting the sections framing the face—taming any stray strands with a small brush and hairspray—he completes the "royal look" by hand, running his fingers through her hair to give it a more natural, effortless feel.
The Color
Although Kate Middleton’s hair color might appear to be a "simple brown" at first glance, it is actually a carefully considered shade that adds volume and shine, flatters her face, and lends an air of luxury to her look. Her base color is a vibrant brown, complemented by highlights in three different tones of the same hue: one slightly lighter, one matching the base, and one slightly darker. Her colorist ensures the highlights are very fine, resulting in a highly natural finish.
