The dress in which Marilyn Monroe sang 'Happy Birthday, Mr. President', auctioned for 4.5 million euros
The tight dress that Marilyn Monroe wore to sing a sensual version of 'Happy Birthday' to then United States President John F. Kennedy, has been sold this Thursday for more than 4.5 million euros (4.8 million dollars) at an auction in Los Angeles.
The last time this same dress was auctioned, in 1999, it fetched 1.18 million euros ($ 1.26 million).
Now, a buyer who has not wanted to be known has acquired the sequin-covered and nude-colored suit, which on Monroe's body made her appear practically naked.
"Marilyn Monroe singing" Happy Birthday, Mr. President "is surely one of the most improvised performances in American history," said Darren Julien, president of Julien's auction house.
