Depp, in a message on Instagram, has acknowledged that the Warner Bros film studio has asked him to leave his role as villain Gellert Grindelwald. "I have respected and accepted that request," he says.
Warner Bros explains in a statement that Depp "will leave the 'Fantastic Animals' franchise and that the role of Grindelwald will be reformulated. The third film of the spin-off of the author of 'Harry Potter', JK Rowling has recently resumed production and it is expected to hit theaters in 2022, according to the production company.
Depp writes on his Instagram account that he plans to appeal the judgment against him in the London defamation trial. "My life and my career will not be defined at this time," he adds.
